23 Mar Under 13 Cup – Swansea
The Under 13 Boys travelled to Swansea for the qualifying round of the Welsh Cup.
They faced some well organised opposition with Abergavenny and Whitchurch providing the toughest tests.By game 3, against Canton the team started to find its feet and some passing moves between Matthew Tudball, Ben Hughes and Tim Hodges nearly produced Bridgend’s opening goal. The penultimate game against Swansea was a close match with keeper Dan Leyshon making excellent saves including, acclaimed by many watching, the save of the tournament, diving to his right and touching a powerful shot round the post. Unfortunately Swansea sneaked a goal and the Bridgend boys lost 1-0.
The final match against Gwent again saw some better moves and some brave defending by Stephen Mansell, Jack Hayes and Tom Hill. Sam Duncombe and Will Davies continued to probe down the wings but couldn’t quite find a way through the sea of orange defenders.
All in all, a great effort and hopefully some more friendly games during the summer will see us come back in a much stronger position next season.
