16 Mar 1st XI Stub Out Marlborough Challenge
Bridgend 1st XI 3 – 2 Marlborough
Another crucial game for the Ravens, as the loser of this, faced an an almost impossible relegation battle. Bridgend made a strong start with a number of chances on goal, however lacked the killer instinct, Marlborough also came close, however were kept at bay by keeper Craig Williams. The tide turned when the experienced Andy Schofield deflected in a cross in a routine well practiced in Tuesdays training, proving you can teach even the oldest dogs new tricks. Marlborough rallied following this and took advantage of a defensive lapse managing a close range finish. Bridgend continued to press, with the first half culminating in a short corner which the opposition scraped away as it was about to cross the line. The second half continued with Bridgend holding possession well. Tom Pearce put in a great performance filling in for the injured Rhydian Cole. Bridgend managed to turn possession into points with David Knight letting his hockey do the talking made space in the middle of the pitch and delivered a cross the defending team were unable to control, as a defender turned it past the helpless keeper. Marlborough responded quickly to this and re-equalised after Bridgend failed to clear their lines effectively. A draw would do neither team any favours and Bridgend pushed on coming close from two short corners. Third time proved to be lucky as Rhys Owen put a shot around the keeper. Bridgend then held on, not allowing Marlborough a sniff of goal. Another strong performance by Bridgend who need a further victory to ensure safety!!
