Bridgend Hockey Club – Under 15s Match Report
Bridgend Boys Back to Winning Ways
Bridgend Under 15 Boys team travelled to Abergavenny on Sunday to compete in matches against Brecon, Whitchurch and Canton and Riverside.
Not having fared well in previous encounter Bridgend got off to a great start with a 1-1 draw against Canton and Riverside. This was a closely fought game with stout defending and crunching tackles from Arwel Clements, Lliw Williams, Jack Hayes and heroic goalkeeping by Mathew Keating keeping the Cardiff based team at bay.
Bridgend moved up a gear for their second game, against Whitchurch, playing some fast, passing hockey which saw the boys go into the half time break 6-0 up. Whitchurch strengthened in the second half but only managed to match an additional brace of goals from Bridgend. The performance of the game came from Owen Tuckwell who bagged four of the Bridgend goals with mid-field dynamo Jacob Hodges also getting on the score sheet.
The final game, against a battling Brecon team proved a closer encounter but one in which Bridgend improved on their movement of the ball, accuracy of passing and sharp shooting resulting in a 6-3 victory. Rhys Rubery was rewarded for his efforts in all three games with a goal with others being added by Owain Leyshon and Timothy Hodges.
Two wins and a draw was by far the best performance by a Bridgend boys team for many years and coupled with their team spirit, this bodes well for the future.
