Bridgend Ladies 1st XI v Radnor – Loss 4:7
A disappointing final score for Bridgend Ladies 1st XI. A solid first half saw goals from Sophie Evans and captain Jo Poupon and meant at half time we were level with our Radnor opposition. The second half however saw a less structured Bridgend side, and even with a further two goals from Jo Poupon and Louise Jones Bridgend were unable to get back in the game. The side fought hard until the final whistle with some excellent defensive play and tackling, but were unable to catch up. Focus is now on next weeks game against Whitchurch Saints 2nd XI!
Bridgend Ladies 2nd XI v Swansea Uni – Loss 1:6
This was another tough, fast game for the 2nds, however Bridgend held themselves well for the first 15mins managing to move the ball around and work together. Goal Keeper Sam Brown kept the opposition at bay, but then with three key players in the centre Swansea picked up their game and scored goals in succession. Bridgend came back in the last quarter to score a well worked goal by Carys Shread.
Bridgend Mens 3rd XI v Abergavenny – Loss 13:0
Fielding a much changed side from last week, Bridgend were immediately placed under considerable pressure by Abergavenny 1sts. They were soon four goals down, despite some excellent saves and hard work from the midfield. Youngsters Gareth Collier and Jacob Hodges worked hard to stem the tide.
Chances for forwards Jeremy Ingram and Jack Steer were limited, as Abergavenny dominated possession. Making his debut at senior level, 12 year old Matthew Hibbert was not intimidated, and showed some excellent control and teamwork as Bridgend put some attacks in place.
Despite Abergavenny’s dominance and their 13 – 0 win, Bridgend will improve as they get used to playing against these stronger sides. There were some positives to take forward as the team keeps its head up high.
