 Bridgend Men’s 3rd X1  0,  Penarth  2nd X1  2.

Bridgend competed well in this hard fought game, and were well worthy of holding a strong Penarth 2nd X1 to a no score at half-time.

Penarth’s territorial advantage early on was well defended by Derek Jones, Matthew Arthur, John Thomas and youngster James King with timely tackles and interceptions. After this nervous start, Bridgend then settled with midfield John Woodward, Youngster Gareth Collier, Ian Blatchford and Mike John using possession wisely, allowing Ross Allen to spark attacks for forwards Jeremy Ingram and Jack Steer to worry the Penarth defence.

However, few clear cut chances were created by both sides as midfields dominated, with the final passes tending to go astray. But 12 year old Rhys Bradshaw  defied his years and began to use his considerable ball skills to take on and beat the Penarth defence, but no goals were scored in the first half.

The second half was much the same, with Bridgend competing well, but finally the defence was stretched to allow Penarth to score two goals, after skipper and goalkeeper Cliff Harrison made a number of excellent saves, thereby frustrating Penarth with Steve Sloan helping the defensive wall.

A disappointing result, but spirits are high for the games ahead.

Under 15 Girls

U15 girls played for the first time as a team, against a strong Swansea side.

Ellie Williams volunteered as a goalkeeper and seeing as this was her first time in goal played excellently. The score of 0-4 does not reflect how hard the girls fought. The defence worked well blocking shots on goal, and distributed the ball well to the mid field.

There were some strong counter attacks and a couple of chances to score, with the forwards working well as a team. This was a good experience and can be built on for the next game.

All in all this was a very good performance from the whole team, Ellie, Evie, Laurie, Hannah, Carys P, Megan F, Megan M, Katie, Carys S, Rhiannon, Alana, Sian, Catlin, Rayer.
